Well, I don't recall any announcement to the effect of "This is the
final, official version of the 1.1 specification".
It may be that other game writers also weren't aware it was stable
enough to be used. As for not reaching any consensus on
the sound, well, that was largely my fault. That's why I've suggested
this new idea, which I think lets me have the control
I wanted whilst still keeping the different types of sound in different
channels, which other people wanted. I'm not going
to push hard for this at the moment, but if I ever get anywhere with my
next major game, it's going to require better sound
than the Z-Machine currently has.
